Delta region to build world-class information communication hub
In addition to Wuzhen, Deqing county in Huzhou has also been exploring the 5G self-driving technology.
The county opened a 949.3-kilometer test road for self-driving cars at the 2019 Global Future Mobility Conference on Oct 25, much longer than the 123-km one in Beijing and the 124-km one in Shenzhen.
The YRD region has also pioneered the commercial use of 5G services.
According to a development plan for the region released in 2016, China Telecom, China Unicom, China Mobile and China Tower will invest more than 200 billion yuan ($28.4 billion) in 5G infrastructure construction in the region by 2021 to help build it into a world-class information communication hub.
The four abovementioned communication companies signed an agreement with the region last June to promote the region's pilot use of 5G network and applications.
The agreement made it clear that the YRD region will be the first in China to conduct trial commercial use of 5G services this year and become one of the first regions in China to conduct official commercial use in 2020.
Zhejiang authorities announced recently that they aimed to realize the coverage of 5G network throughout the province by 2025.
