5G autonomous buses are set to make their global debut in Wuzhen, Eastern Zhejiang province, on the first day of the sixth World Internet Conference which will take place on Oct 20-22, according to the organizers.

The vehicle will offer free shuttle service for participants of the annual global event.

The shuttle bus, manufactured by Hangzhou BroadXT Inc, will be the first mass-produced 5G autonomous micro bus in China, which has passed test on open urban roads.

According to Zhu Xia, sales manager from BroadXT, the vehicle shares the same appearance with 10-seat buses, while it is covered with various sensors.

Thanks to the 5G technology and artificial intelligence cutting-edge computing, the autonomous bus is capable of reacting within 100 mini seconds to complex road conditions, Zhu said.

It can identify pedestrians, vehicles, and other obstacles on the road within 200 meters and its cloud command system can also give an optimal driving route when encountering traffic jams, traffic accidents and extreme weather to ensure safe and efficient passage.

During the annual event, a four-kilometer route from Wuzhen Design Park to the crossroad of Longyuan road and Huanhe road is expected to be cleared for the 5G autonomous bus to carry part of attendees for the venue.
