The Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission has announced a plan to carry out 10 landmark projects worth 1.48 trillion yuan ($207.9 billion) that will build an international trade and logistics network connecting Yiwu, Ningbo and Zhoushan.
The 10 projects, which consist of 78 key tasks and 230 supporting projects, are expected to form a giant network centered around Yiwu International Trade City, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, Yiwu Port, Ningbo-Jinhua Highway and Jinhua-Ningbo Railway.
The first action they take will involve a 246.6-million-yuan project to integrate the land, sea, and air transportation routes between Yiwu, Ningbo, and Zhoushan. It is expected that every year Ningbo-Zhoushan Port will receive over 360,000 standard containers from Yiwu after the Jinhua-Ningbo Railway is fully operational.
Zhejiang will also extend its current logistics network towards the west by adding three new routes towards Jiande, Lin'an and Hefei; Quzhou and Nanchang; and Lishui and Fuzhou. A comprehensive logistics channel is expected to form along the southern bank of the Yangtze River.
Accordingly, Jinhua and Yiwu will double down on their construction of logistics facilities, including a national logistics center and two regional logistics bases, to support the province's new level of opening-up.
Notably, the sixth project is about creating five coordinated development areas, including the Jinhua-Yiwu Metropolitan Area, to better integrate into the Yangtze River Delta region.
By 2020, the cities and counties involved in the 10 projects are expected to contribute 45 percent of the GDP and over 60 percent of foreign trade value in Zhejiang.
