Shengzhou is a renowned producer of tea in East China. For hundreds of years, the tea products from the city have occupied an important position in the country's tea industry.

In recent years, the local government has attached great importance to the brand building of "Shengzhou Tea" and has made a lot of explorations into the formation of a complete industrial chain.

In 2017, the total output of tea in the city reached 19,600 metric tons, generating a value of 860 million yuan ($124.64 million).
