Annual session of Zhejiang People's Congress proves fruitful

The first session of the 13th Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress drew to an end on Jan 31. The session passed a series of resolutions and elected new leaders for the province.
The Congress is Zhejiang's top legislative body. Over the past seven days, deputies from around the province have been briefed on the 2017 work report of the provincial government, the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang People's Congress, the Zhejiang High People's Court, and the People's Procuratorate of Zhejiang. They also passed the development budget for 2018.
New leaders were elected at this year's session. Che Jun, Party secretary of Zhejiang, was elected chairman of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress, while Yuan Jiajun was re-elected governor of Zhejiang province.
Liu Jianchao was chosen as chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Procuratorial Committee, and Li Zhanguo was elected president of the Zhejiang Provincial Higher People's Court.
The new group of leaders pledged allegiance to the Constitution at the session's closing ceremony on Thursday.
Che promised in a speech that he will lead the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial People's Congress in creating a better future for the province. He also commended the efforts made by the previous leadership for the economic and social development of Zhejiang.
The re-elected Governor Yuan pledged on behalf of the provincial government to promote the high-quality development of Zhejiang. He said that officials will speed up the development of a service-oriented government and create a happy and prosperous province for the people.
