Wu Jianrong, chairman of Zhejiang Zhongnan Holding Group, proposed building a pediatrics union in Zhejiang during the first session of the 13th Zhejiang People's Congress, which is in session from Jan 25-31 in Hangzhou.
"As a deputy from the business circle, I cannot focus only on my own company or industry," said Wu, "We should also pay attention to the people's livelihood."
Wu said he's noticed for a long time that children face difficulties receiving medical treatment. He gave an example of the flu problem not long ago, "Parents and children had to wait several hours to see a doctor at hospitals."
Before attending the congress, Wu paid several visits to The Children's Hospital at the Zhejiang University School of Medicine and found that there is a severe shortage of quality medical resources for pediatrics. He said The Children's Hospital is the best in the entire province and plays a major role in Zhejiang's pediatrics, and that other hospitals are not good enough to provide high-quality medical services for children.
"I think children's health should be a priority in building a healthy Zhejiang," Wu remarked. He suggested improving medical services in pediatrics by strengthening ties among the province's hospitals.
"We should encourage pediatricians from good hospitals to go to grassroots communities and complete the transferring system among medical units at different levels," Wu proposed. "Moreover, we need mechanisms for talent cultivation and technology development, and we should set up an online treatment platform available across the whole province," added Wu.
Wu's proposal encompassed leading pediatric hospitals as well as common health service centers.
