Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, a town built on canals, is now the permanent home of the nation's largest and most high-profile internet-related event – the upcoming fourth World Internet Conference. This year's conference will devote much of its attention to the latest internet technologies being used in the town.

Known for its wide application of internet technologies and 4G network coverage across the whole town, Wuzhen stands to demonstrate how the internet can improve the lives of those living in such areas.

Security checkpoints have been equipped with advanced technologies like big data and facial recognition. Cars entering the town will be scanned automatically while passengers can complete their identity authentication on self-service machines. The whole process for a car to pass security and enter Wuzhen takes only 30 seconds.

An intelligent parking system makes it possible for drivers to locate empty car spaces before paying the associated charges from their smart phones.

A code enabling mobile payment, a convenient way to complete transactions, can be seen at almost all shops, hotels and restaurants in Wuzhen. Moreover, visitors can order tourist buses and boats by scanning codes with their phones.

Conference attendees staying in the town will make use of another 26 intelligent pieces of infrastructure from self-service supermarkets to garbage collection robots and smart street lamps, all of which are improving the quality of daily life for Wuzhen's residents.
