Wuzhen wizardry to welcome WIC guests
Those traveling to Wuzhen to attend the upcoming fourth World Internet Conference will be met by the latest in transport technology as they enter the city limits.
Newly-established checkpoints have been established in the outskirts of Wuzhen to process attendees as they arrive in their vehicles. Car scanners will be used to ensure that the vehicles are safe to enter the ancient scenic area, as well as facial recognition technology to identify registered attendees.
Those that haven't registered for the facial recognition system are able to enter Wuzhen by simply scanning a RFID-enabled card at the gate. The whole process is said to take less than 30 seconds.
Upon arrival at their hotels, not matter the time of day or night, guests will be able to have food delivered by simply scanning a QR code located at their bedside.
Following the success of the three previous WICs held in Wuzhen, the ancient water town has implemented 26 intelligent projects including creating unmanned supermarkets, garbage picking robots and intelligent road lamps.
In the lead-up to the opening of the conference on Dec 3, hundreds of workers have been busying themselves at the main venue of the WIC –Wuzhen International Internet Exhibition and Conference Center (WIIECC). From Oct 22 onwards, the workers have been testing equipment and carried out a full-scale drills for the opening and closing ceremonies to ensure a smooth operation.
A highlight of the conference will be a recently-assembled big screen with better quality and resolution compared to previous conferences, said Lu Yuan, deputy director of the WIC organizing committee.
A brand new culture center will also be opened featuring recreational facilities such as a swimming pool, bakery and yoga room.
All public restrooms at the West Gate Scenic Area will offer 24-hour hot water given the dry weather and low temperature in December.
