Zhejiang's GDP grows 8.1% in first three quarters
East China's Zhejiang province registered a year-on-year GDP growth of 8.1 percent in the first three quarters of 2017, exceeding 3.69 trillion yuan ($558.73 billion) in total, according to the provincial statistics bureau.
The data showed a healthy growth momentum and reflected good results of the province's economic reforms.
The upgrading of the industrial structure was a strong support to the steady development of Zhejiang's economy from January to September. The value added in the tertiary industry accounted for 51.5 percent of the province's total GDP with a growth rate 1.2 percent higher than the overall level.
The high-tech sectors including the high-end equipment manufacturing and the health industry made great contribution to the GDP development as well.
Zhejiang's economy is experiencing qualitative transformation, especially the upgrading of traditional industries, according to experts.
A total of 1,509 companies were shut down or transformed and over 14,500 workshops were forced to reorganize.
In the first nine months, the profits of 10 upgraded traditional manufacturing industries totaled 135.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 26.8 percent.
Moreover, by promoting the application of internet and big data in real economy, many new sources of economic growth emerged. For instance, the output value of the new-energy vehicles, optical fiber and robots increased 112 percent, 44.3 percent and 20 percent respectively in the first three quarters.
