By combining historic relics and modern development, Xiaoshan stands as a model for other cities in China to internationalize their urban cultures.
Kua Hu Qiao (cross-lake bridge) in Xiaoshan, as its name indicates, refers to a bridge across two lakes of Ancient Xianghu Lake. In 2002, an 8,000-year-old canoe, the oldest ever recorded, was discovered in the area. This discovery, according to official sources is of great significance to the study of human civilization thereby leading to the study of Kua Hu Qiao culture.
Numerous conferences have been held in Xiaoshan since the G20 Hangzhou Summit in 2016. This was one of the reasons why Xiaoshan was chosen by the UN delegation as the model for the internalization of Chinese urban culture
