Financial harbor to debut by Qiantang River

Zhejiang released a scheme for the establishment of a financial harbor in the area by the Qiantang River on Dec 26.

The financial harbor is positioned as home to an industrial cluster composed of financial institute headquarters, financial market elements, private funds, internet finance and big data. To gain a greater international influence and a strong capacity in attracting investment and talent, the Qiantang River financial harbor will mainly focus on financial innovation and innovative commercialization achievements.

Aiming to be a top-ranking highland of the financial sector, a financial exchange center and an area with a strong radiating capacity, the upcoming harbor is going to integrate institutes, capital markets and talent in the finance sector on the basis of the superior ecological environment, and the strong economic and financial foundation in the area along the river banks.

Four functional areas will be set up, including a core area for wealth management, a corridor for private funds, an innovation base for financial big data and a makerspace for new finance.

Besides core businesses in finance, the harbor will also provide infrastructures, apartments, a medical center and metro lines for a convenient and comfortable life here for financial professionals.

The planning area for the financial harbor includes Hangzhou and Jiaxing. In the long run, Shaoxing, Ningbo and Zhoushan may also be included in the radiation zone.

Jin Xuejun, executive director of the Institute for Public Policy of Zhejiang University, said the financial harbor is a combination of financial and emerging industries, as well as an integration of advantages shared by the characteristic towns of Zhejiang.
