With Hangzhou entrepreneurs' endeavors, the city's GDP totaled more than 1 trillion yuan in 2015, up 10.2 percent year-on-year. The growth rates of Internet finance, mobile Internet, e-commerce and the digital sector were beyond 30 percent.
Zhao Yide, Party secretary of Hangzhou, said at the opening ceremony that the city's entrepreneurs are precious treasures, as they are the developers and pioneers, as well as an important driving force for reform and development.
Zhang Hongming, the mayor of the city, said Hangzhou entrepreneurs are not just those who born in the city, but also the businesspeople from private sectors, state-owned companies, overseas-funded enterprises who contribute to the city's production. Zhang said he expected Hangzhou to be a world famous city in the near future.
Jack Ma, an icon of Hangzhou business, expressed his anticipation via a video. He said in the past, Hangzhou entrepreneurs became well-known for their knowledge, diligence and vision, but now they should create real values and pioneer the new world for entrepreneurs from across the globe.
The Hangzhou government attaches great importance to the chambers of commerce from outside and provides active and sincere help for them, according to the secretary of Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce in Hangzhou.
The World Hangzhou Entrepreneurs Convention is more of an open and inclusive sharing platform, than an event just for attracting investment and promoting economic development, said Zhu Bin, chairman of Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce.
The three-day convention held diverse activities, including a forum on "Made in China 2025", a promotion seminar on Israeli innovative technology, and an innovation competition for makers.
