CCTV host: the connotations of number 11 and the G20
Bai Yansong, a renowned China Central Television (CCTV) host, has given his analysis of President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the G20 summit on Sunday.
He examined the key themes of cooperation, action, and innovation, contained in the president’s address.
This is the 11th summit; the number 11 tells us that one plus one is more than two, which means cooperation is of great importance in the current global economic slump, suggested Bai.
Eleven is also the number of a player in a football team, whose success largely relies on teamwork. As a bellwether in the world economy, the G20 members need to coordinate with each other for the economic recovery.
Eleven also means action, Bai claims. It reminds people of the No 11 bus, a slang for walking on your two legs, referring to actions. President Xi's speech also highlighted the actions taken by countries in the G20.
As for innovation, which was mentioned several times in the speech, there is also a story on 11 that people simply can't miss, and that is the Nov 11 shopping festival created by the e-commerce giant Alibaba in Hangzhou. Innovation is vital in the current economic climate.
The shape of stretched 11 looks like a road, Bai said, and we all must hope the global economy runs smoothly down the road of innovation.
