Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone
Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (WETDZ), is the only state-level development zone in south Zhejiang province, approved in 1992 by the State Council. WETDZ has a total area of 262.98 square kilometers, integrated with five other adjacent industrial parks and one residential community, with a population of 237,800 as of 2014.
In 2014, the integrated WETDZ' GDP totaled 35.12 billion yuan ($5.16 billion), gross output of industries with an annual output value above 20 million yuan reached 88.65 billion yuan, with the revenue of 6.02 billion yuan.
The GDP of the original WETDZ reached 18.74 billion yuan, with an increase of 7.7 percent during the same period compared with last year; total industrial output stood at 62.66 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 8.8 percent; regional revenue totaled 2.51 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent; total foreign trade value reached $1.06 billion, with an increase of 1.16 percent during the same period compared with last year.
WETDZ has also been a pilot zone for the construction of national low-carbon industrial parks, and has been named a development zone with featured industries.
WETDZ has the advantage of industry clusters, develops leading industries, featured industries and high-tech and emerging industries. The automobile industry is the leading characteristic industry, and the industry scale in 2014 increased by 24.6 percent during the same period compared with last year. Auto parts are part of an industrial chain, which includes manufacturing, trade and sales, with an industry cluster worth more than a trillion yuan.
Traditional industries, including electric appliances, garments and shoes, high-tech and emerging industry clusters, including marine science and technology, including new energy and materials, e-commerce and logistics, and high-end equipment manufacturing, are also the focus of WETDZ's development.
As a construction base WETDZ is also famous for its sanitary goods, food and medicine machinery.
